Paul McCartney: Always had to live with the success of the Beatles shadowing him

Paul McCartney otherwise known as Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE… is to be married for the third time today. New Yorker, Nancy Shevell, 51, who is an heiress to a trucking fortune is the lucky woman. Beatles drummer Ringo Starr was a high-profile guest at the London ceremony. This got me thinking about how much I love the Paul McCartney and everything he does; the public also feel the same as Heather Mills became the equivalent of a pantomime villain after the highly publicised divorce.

BBC Online readers named McCartney the “greatest composer of the millennium”, and BBC News cites his Beatles song “Yesterday” as the most covered song in the history of recorded music. He is also listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles.

Paul McCartney’s online biography also claims:

“The Wings’ 1977 single “Mull of Kintyre” also became the first single to sell more than two million copies in the UK, and remains the UK’s top selling non-charity single”

How surprising is that considering McCartney’s career arguably peaked in the 60’s.

Over the years, the man has played some fantastic gigs (post Beatles) with the biggest names in music. There is even a conspiracy theory that Paul died in a car accident in 1966. It is seriously amusing and can be accessed by clicking  this link.

Here are a couple of my favourite Paul McCartney live performances…

.

Something (Concert for George): Paul McCartney & Eric Clapton

.

Maybe I’m Amazed: Paul McCartney & the Wings

.

Live and Let Die: Paul McCartney & the Wings

.

Hey Jude: Paul McCartney, Elton John, Phil Colins, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton & Sting

.

I hope you enjoyed this feature. An honourable mention also goes to “Dance Tonight” which was in an Itunes advert. I was singing this for months after it came out.
